Rules and Assessment Criteria

Dear Students,

The Pathophysiology Course comprises nine main topics, delivered through a combination of
lectures and laboratory sessions. In addition to material presented during classes, self-study of
supplementary topics from assigned textbooks (as indicated by the lecturers) is mandatory.

Topic Assessments (Module Tests)

  • Each topic concludes with a written test containing 5 to 25 questions, depending on the
    scope of the topic.
  • Question types may include:
    • Single-choice
    • Multiple-choice
    • Gap-filling
    • Open-ended (short-answer) questions
  • Each question carries a specific number of points, as determined by the responsible lecturer.
  • Passing threshold: minimum 60% of total points for each test.
  • Each test may be attempted twice only (one initial attempt + one retake).
  • To qualify for the final exam, students must successfully pass all 9 topic tests (9/9).

Retake Policy (Comprehensive Retake Test)

  • If a student fails any of the topic tests and its retake, they are allowed one final
    comprehensive retake test.
  • This comprehensive test will cover all nine topics.
  • It must be completed before the first scheduled final exam date and requires prior
arrangement with the Head of the Pathophysiology Course.
  • If the comprehensive test is not passed, the student will be required to repeat the entire
Pathophysiology Course in the next term.

Final Examination

  • The final exam is a written test consisting of 60–80 single-choice questions, each with five answer options (one correct).
  • Each question is worth one point.
  • To pass the exam, a minimum of 70% of total points must be achieved.
  • There are only three exam dates per semester.

Absences and Medical Certificates

  • Students do not forfeit a test or exam attempt if a valid medical certificate is provided.
  • The certificate must be submitted to:
    • The lecturer responsible for the missed topic (for module tests), or
    • The Head of the Pathophysiology Course (for the final exam).
  • In such cases, an alternative test or exam date will be arranged in agreement with the relevant lecturer or course coordinator.

If you have questions or special circumstances, please contact the Head of the Pathophysiology Course in advance.

We wish you a successful and engaging semester!
